Christian Fantasy and Roman Historical fiction

A Gladiator's Prayer

Freedom comes at a cost, one that scars both body and soul.

In the blood-soaked arenas beyond Rome, Magnus is a warrior bound by a brutal contract. Twelve victories will earn him his freedom. But as he inches closer to release, he begins to feel the weight of a much deeper war. A battle not of flesh and steel, but of spirit and purpose.

When Magnus crosses paths with a mysterious stranger named Michael and a spirited group of orphans, his world begins to shift. Through their words of hope and faith, he is drawn into a greater war, one that remains unseen by human eyes. In this supernatural struggle, prayers become weapons, and angels and demons battle over the souls of mankind.
As his fame grows, so do the dangers. Confronted by the corruption of Rome, the greed of powerful men, and the darkness within himself, Magnus must make a choice. Will he keep fighting for fleeting glory, or rise toward a purpose far greater than the arena?

Epic, emotional, and spiritually powerful, A Gladiator’s Prayer is the opening chapter in the Wings of the Sword series. This redemptive tale of courage and awakening reveals that the greatest victories are not won by the blade, but by the soul.

Why I Wrote Wings of the Sword Book One: A Gladiator’s Prayer

I’ve always been drawn to stories of warriors, gladiators, samurai, knights. Figures who face impossible odds and fight for something greater than themselves. As a firefighter, a husband, and a man of faith, I see battles every day—some physical, some spiritual. This story came from a place deep in my heart, born out of a desire to remind people they’re not alone in their fight.

Wings of the Sword: A Gladiator’s Prayer is more than a tale of swords and sand. It’s a story about the soul—about how even the strongest warrior can be lost inside, and how true freedom comes not through violence, but through faith. I wanted to show what it looks like when God reaches into the darkest corners of a man’s life and calls him to something higher.

Magnus’s journey reflects so many of our own. He’s bound by the world’s chains, praised for his strength, yet starving for peace. I wrote this book for anyone who’s ever questioned their purpose, who’s fought battles in silence, or who’s wondered if they’re worth saving. My hope is that through these pages, readers will find not just a story—but a spark of something eternal.
